Review: Bad Blood-Bastille

I'm aware this album has been out for some time now and it's grown increasingly popular as of late. However, I purchased it the other day as it's on constant repeat on my iPod. I've never been one for buying CDs, but since Christmas, when a gift I received was a CD player/iPod dock, I've gotten into the idea.

Bastille are a very British band. The frontman, Dan Smith, has that accented singing voice that drives the girls mental. Or so I've heard. Swoon. Yet somehow, a fair amount of their songs have an almost Celtic feel to them due to the heavy drums focus. Instead of kilts and the like, though, you get an indie-look.

The tracks on this album are all, in my opinion, incredibly catchy and fun. If I had to recommend just three, I'd go with Pompeii, Things We Lost In The Fire and Oblivion. The first two have been released as singles and both entered the UK top 40 charts in 2013, and Pompeii remains there now. Oblivion is one only on the album for now, but it's definitely worth the listen.

Bad Blood has been a very successful album, also. It spent three non-consecutive weeks at number one in the UK charts, has been certified platinum and was nominated for British Album of the Year in the Brits 2014. An extended version (titled 'All This Bad Blood') was released late in 2013.

Overall I'd give the album a thoroughly positive review, and look forward to even more by the band.
